CONCERTS
Pisendel's Closet
sound|counterpoint

The court of August the Strong in Dresden, 1697-1763, was home to a brilliant orchestra without equal in europe. Johann Georg Pisendel, concertmaster of the group from 1728, collected music from far and wide for his private library, which was then deposited in Schranck No: II (Closet No:II), after a 1760 fire destroyed almost all the music kept at court. sound|counterpoint draws its program from this vast compilation, including music of Pisendel himself, Vivaldi (with whom he shared immense mutual respect), and a host of lesser-known but exciting composers that you are certain to love!

The Harmonious Society of Tickle-Fiddle-Gentlemen
sound|counterpoint

London at the end of the 17th century was a bustling city with a healthy musical life. In addition to the thriving publishing market providing music to amateurs to enjoy in their own homes, the popularity of the public concert was also on the rise, thanks to collaborations between amateur and professional musicians. Concertgoers embraced a diverse selection of musical styles: from older English fantasias to newer sonatas from the continent. Fellow Salmon Runner Christine Wilkinson Beckman - violin/viola - joins sound|counterpoint to present a choice sampling of pieces from libraries of Thomas Britton and Gottfried Finger, featuring music by Locke, Purcell, Matteis, and others.

Join s|c violinist Linda Melsted and harpsichordist Jonathan Oddie for a duo recital of works for obbligato harpsichord with violin accompaniment. We will perform music by Duphly, Mondonville, a newly commissioned work by local composer Adam Haws, as well as an illuminating contrast of monumental works by father and son, Johann Sebastian and Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach.
